We have them, so give us a query! They are the notations of a traveling priest, Father Badin, who visited Prairie du Chien and Galena before there was a resident pastor in these towns.

I have been trying to find Father Badin's records. So, now what do I do to access them?

I found them online a long time ago but can't now tell you where. I'll do a search but, in the meantime, if you have a query about a certain party who may have been baptised, married or buried by Father Badin, I'll look on the list. Badin's records cover PRAIRIE-DU-CHIEN, GALENA, AND the FEVER RIVER from 1827-1833. Later: Ha, it took me about a minute to find them doing a Google! Here you go: tinyurl.com/bpm8mb6

I am looking for Benjamin John Dyonne, AKA Benjamin A.D. Young, born 1811 At Prairie du Chien. I have seen him also as last name Dionne. He became a voyager, out of PdC, travelled with Nicollett and Fremont. He married Henriette Campbell in Mn, He died at Santee Nebraska in 1899. I am searching for his parentage. I appreciate any tips hints or other info.

Hi, Ziziwin, and welcome. So far I have the following: Scott Campbell: (1790's-1851) He was the son of Archibald John Campbell & a Dakota woman and married Margaret Menager. This last name is variously spelled, sometimes "Menaigre dit Fromme". My children are related to them, too. Scott Campbell was the interpreter for the Indian Agent at Fort Snelling for some years. He and Margaret had perhaps 9 children. One of them was Henriette S. (b.1824; m.Benjamin Aitken Dyomme) Name - Henrietta (Harriet) Campbell Born - 1824 Fort Snelling, Minnesota Married - 1848 Spouse - Benjamin Aitken Dyomme Young Children - Benjamin J. Young b. Abt 1847 - Marie Louise Young b. Abt 1850 This site has a lot of information about Benjamin and Harriet from the various censuses. It even gives the birth places of Ben's parents, but if they can ever be found is doubtful: home.comcast.net/~forefolk/AliceFrancesSheppard/4505.htmThere was an early settler at Prairie du Chien called Etienne Dionne who married some local women, but how or if he might have been related to Benjamin I can't say. The census says that, although Benjamin says he was born in Minnesota, his father was from Canada and mother from Wisconsin--Prairie diu Chien may be a good candidate there.

Also, since Benjamin had the middle name of Aitken, there is a possibility his mother could have been one of the many daughters of Scottish fur trader, William Alexander Aitken, of the North West Company. Aitken was thought to have 25 mixed-blood children by different native wives. At least one wife received land due to a treaty: "To Pazhikwutoqua, wife of William Aitken, and to each of her children, one section." digital.library.okstate.edu/kappler/vol2/treaties/chi0268.htm
